Hastings Group (“Hastings”, the “Group”)  has published its second annual Sustainability Report outlining progress made on the Group’s ESG agenda, how it has continued to support colleagues, customers and communities during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hastings knows that tackling sustainability challenges is about coming together to make change and have a bigger impact. Colleagues, customers, company and community (Hastings’ 4Cs) all play a critical role in helping the Group achieve its sustainability goals through its day to day actions.

Highlights from the 2021 Sustainability Report include:

  • Being certified CarbonNeutral® company for a second year running, with a reduction in overall carbon footprint of 76% against 2019 baseline, exceeding the original target of a 50% reduction by 2022
  • Ambition to be net-zero by 2050, using science backed targets
  • Commitments to reduce the carbon intensity of the investment portfolio and become signatories to the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investing (UN PRI)
  • Continued to build an inclusive culture, recognised as 29th in the Top 50 UK Inclusive Employers 2021
  • Continued COVID-19 Community Commitment Scheme, supporting local charities and schools with £198,000 of financial support
  • Began using recycled (green) parts in the vehicle repair process, saving 29,000kg of carbon emissions
  • Improvements in digital and online journeys, systems and keeping customers in mind resulting in continued high customer satisfaction scores and an increase in customers stating they would recommend Hastings
  • Significant investment made in working flexibly and new technology, providing colleagues with a better experience at home and in the office.

Toby van der Meer, Hastings CEO said, “It’s been another year of great progress and I’m immensely proud of how our colleagues have continued to support each other, our customers, and communities during 2021 and to work together to build towards a more sustainable future, often in difficult circumstances where it would have been easy to focus on more short term issues.
Highlights for me include exceeding our carbon footprint reduction targets, being a certified CarbonNeutral® company for a second year, and ensuring we have positive social impacts as the business continues to grow. Colleague engagement had its highest year yet, we’ve maintained additional support for our communities during the COVID-19 pandemic,  and we continued to be recognised as one the most inclusive companies in the UK.
A big thank you to all of my colleagues. Overall a year of great progress. Now on to even more in 2022.”
