Staff from Bexhill's largest employer, Hastings Direct splashed out taking the Ice Bucket Challenge and raising £1,000 for the East Sussex branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

The Ice Bucket Challenge has taken the world by storm this summer. Whilst participating themselves, challengers dare family, friends and colleagues to be filmed having a bucket of ice water poured on their heads. The challenge was devised to raise awareness and funds for the Motor Neurone Disease Association (known as ALS in the USA). Motor Neurone Disease (MND) is a progressive disease that attacks the motor neurones, or nerves, in the brain and spinal cord which affects about five thousand people in the UK.

Hastings Direct was challenged by 1st Central and Moneysupermarket.com and staff responded en masse to the challenge — with fifty participating in a mass soaking. In turn Hasting Direct has nominated the staff from Confused.com, LV= and Comparethemarket.com to take the Ice Bucket Challenge.

Jay Wootten, community liaison, Hastings Direct: "The Ice Bucket Challenge has been a fantastically fun way to raise money and awareness for motor neurone disease. We are proud to have been one small part of this worldwide phenomenon whilst supporting at a very local level."
