10,000 miles will raise £10,000 for charity for kids

Hastings Direct's commercial manager Chris Hawkes is calling on all runners in the Battle, Bexhill and Hastings area to donate the miles they run in 2014 and help raise £10,000 for Charity for Kids.

Chris is one of the founders of Born Ready Runners — a local running group which is spearheading the challenge. Born Ready Runners are participating in a number of key running events across the year to raise money for Hastings based Charity for Kids.

Chris Hawkes, founder, Born Ready Runners; "Last year we raised an astonishing £12,000 for children with a rare cancer. This year we want to involve our local community to help us raise at least £10,000 for Charity for Kids. People can help in two ways with either of our two challenges — the first to clock up 10,000 miles — which is half way around the world and the second to raise money."

Charity for Kids provides help for disabled, sick and terminally ill children — and their families — across Sussex. Entirely run by volunteers, the Hastings based charity helps children and their families with everything from providing specialist equipment to help at home.

Hawkes: "We are asking every local runner and jogger — new and experienced –to use their running apps (Nike+, MapMyRun, Garmin Apps etc.) to track their miles and donate it to our campaign. Effectively you will become a "virtual" Born Ready Runner donating your miles to our campaign — if any of you are planning to race and want to fundraise for a brilliant charity on our doorstep then please consider Charity for Kids — every mile and pound will make a difference. We started the challenge on January 1st and have already achieved 914 miles in the first two weeks."

Jay Wootten, community liaison, Hastings Direct: "Many of our staff will be supporting Chris' initiative throughout the year and we are planning on staging at a couple of fundraising events in support of Charity for Kids."
