Hastings Direct — the biggest employer in Bexhill — has provided A Helping Hand to Power the Prom 5k walk/run taking place this Sunday 24th August on Bexhill seafront.

Damon Pinder has created this event — a first for Bexhill — to help raise awareness and funds for Cancer Research UK: 'I have taken part in a number of 5k runs and walks in aid of Cancer Research UK this year and thought why couldn't Bexhill host one as well?'

Hastings Direct's A Helping Hand makes financial, professional and physical support available to the local community. Each month Hastings is able to offer either professional support from its 1,700+ staff, or physical support with team building days. In addition, Hastings has made a small monthly grant available to support local funding.

Power the Prom begins at 10.30am near the Bexhill Angling Club (bottom of Galley Hill). Pinder: "We are asking people to take part and make a voluntary donation of £5 to Cancer Research UK via the Just Giving page. Anyone can join in — running or walking — and I am even aware of some people planning to complete it in their mobility scooters!"

Jay Wootten, community liaison, Hastings Direct: "We are delighted to be able to help with the medal sponsorship for Power the Prom's first event and believe that the Bexhill community will turn out en masse to support this great event."

For last minute updates follow on Facebook via the Power the Prom page or donate via Just Giving page.
