Hastings Group (“Hastings”, the “Group”) has published its third annual Sustainability Report outlining progress made on the Group’s ESG agenda and the continued support to colleagues, customers and communities throughout 2022.

Hastings believes the best way to have a bigger impact on sustainability challenges is for everyone to play their part by doing what they can, raising awareness and working together as a community to do the right thing and drive change.

Colleagues, customers, company and community (Hastings’ 4Cs) all play a critical role in helping the Group achieve its sustainability goals through its day to day actions.

Highlights from the 2022 Sustainability Report include:

  • Certified CarbonNeutral® for a third year running, with a reduction in operational (scope 1 & 2) emissions of 81% against 2019 baseline, exceeding the original target of a 50% reduction by 2022
  • Commitment to set science based emission reduction targets with Science Based Target initiative (SBTi)
  • Launched a Green Earth initiative, allowing customers to opt for planting trees instead of taking a courtesy car
  • Supported colleagues with a cost of living package, including free meals in onsite canteens and a colleague hardship fund
  • £440,000 of support to good causes, continuing to serve local communities with colleagues collaborating to raise funds for those in need
  • Recognised as 9th in the Top 50 UK Inclusive Employers list
  • Making a number of changes to customer journeys, with a more simple and straightforward experience whilst maintaining a focus on delivering good outcomes for customers
  • Helped customers adopt safer driving habits through our YouDrive telematics product

Toby van der Meer, Hastings CEO said, “We’ve continued to make strong progress on our commitments to our colleagues, customers and communities through these uncertain times and I’m very proud of how we’re working together, to drive progress for a more sustainable future.

Highlights for me include exceeding our carbon footprint targets, being certified CarbonNeutral® for a third year running, and importantly looking further ahead and committing to set science based targets with SBTi, which will support our long term target to be net-zero by 2050.

Thank you to all of my colleagues who have made it another great year of progress. I look forward to achieving more in 2023.”
