Eleven colleagues from Hastings Direct have raised a whopping £3,400 (and counting) for Bexhill based charity Homecall after cycling an impressive 126 miles in one day in eighty-degree heat.

Leaving the company’s Newmarket office at 5.30am on Tuesday morning, the workmates and amateur cyclists reached Hastings Direct’s head office in Bexhill at 8.30pm welcomed by fellow colleagues and representatives from Homecall.

Martin Pierce, Dave Peacock, Ben Wright, Gary Cook, Nicole Walker, Daryl Nayler, Matt Laver, Mark Humphrey, Paul Baker, Simon Catmur and Alan Auger have been training for over three months and although a tough challenge, enjoyed every minute of the charity ride.

Ben Wright from Hastings Direct said, “It was a great challenge and everyone taking part should be really proud of their achievements. The riders and support crew worked really hard on the hottest September day on record, raising money for a brilliant local charity and having a lot of fun in the process. We’re really touched by the support and welcome we received.”

Jay Wootten, community relations manager added, “We’re delighted to be able to support our charity partners of 2016 with events like this. It also provided an opportunity for our colleagues to give something back via our community day programme.  A big well done to team Hastings.”

Leah Norman from Homecall said “A massive thank you to everyone from Hastings Direct that cycled from Newmarket to Bexhill on a very hot day to raise valuable funds for our small charity. The amount raised is truly phenomenal and will ensure Our Volunteer Visitors continue to provide home visits and support to the visually impaired to help them maintain their independence in our community.”
